This is the kind of restaurant I want in your town, the old school casual restaurant with so many good things to choose from & everything comes with soup. OMG the chicken noodle soup was to die for as was the poor boy steak sandwich. We will be regulars here!

I believe that with a little bit of work it could be a bit better cleaning wise. The location isn't ideal and the parking is terrible. The staff is super friendly and nice, but I don't know if I can justify going there strictly because if that.

Everything is home made. Momma Thayer is there greeting everyone and making them feel welcome. You would swear you were eating in your mothers kitchen. Highly recommended. Cash only for payment. Always a great experience at Thayers. Anna Marie, Rick and the entire staff couldn't be more friendly, and the food is ALWAYS excellent. These are all homemade dishes and Mrs. T's own recipes. If you are in search of a friendly local diner, with homemade cooking, don't pass this one up ! You will not be disappointed.

The hostess are awesome and the food is always delicious. The soup is homeade and always delicious! Mrs. Thayer was truly a great pillar in the community. I try to go as often as possible!

Everything was excellent from the service to the food to the prices.

A nice throwback diner int the heart of the city with plenty of seating, a counter and a happy, friendly staff that greets you and takes care of you as you walk in the door. There were a few locals hanging and reading the paper or watching the news feed from the televisions, but they kept to themselves and allowed for a nice sun filled breakfast environment.

It's a little grimy but the chicken noodle soup was good. I walked in and the restaurant was empty so I walked to the bar side assuming I'd have to order there. I was greeted by a bartender and when I told her I wanted to order soup she guided me to the restaurant side. Its cash only.

We arrived at this place for dinner. This place was recommended to us by a friend. Well, it was a winning. we were warmly welcomed by the staff and we felt excellent. The food was just great. We loved this restaurant very much and we will visit this place again. we highly recommend this place.

This is like eating in grandma's kitchen! Everything is fresh and homemade. Ordered a Reuben sandwich and it was enough for two with left overs for dinner! Fries are unbelievable. Homemade soups daily. The desserts are so delicious! Very generous portions and inexpensive prices. Cash only here but ATM on-site.

Absolutely delicious homemade food every time!

The uniqueness of this restaurant shouldn't be overlooked. We were greeted by Mama Thayer herself who took the time to ask us about our day and our vocations as she noticed we were wearing our work ID's. She took a moment to explain the incredible homemade soups, and well as specials, which were hard to choose from. We had the Mexican tortilla soup which was thick and delicious and not too spicy, (Ive had the homemade chicken noodle soup on many occasions and it was hard to beat) I made a great choice!

Service is fantastic. Ask for Rachel she's efficient, courteous and friendly. Grilled shrimp kabobs with watermelon salad was tasty. Carmel apple bread pudding ala mode melts in your mouth. Family friendly!

One of the best local restaurants of Joliet. Staff treated us like close family at the table . I don't think we have ever had such genuine treatment out as a family. Food was delicious. Couldn't have had a better experience. We will definitely be returning as regulars.

Everything is fresh.. love the mashed potatoes . Vegetables very tasty and fresh. I had the salmon and was very happy with it. Bannana cream pie very good. Bean and ham soup very satisfying. My wife had the country fried stake and love it.When it takes 30 minutes to get your food, that's when you know your food is fresh. Hole on the wall place. Like eating mom's cooking.

Every meal here is balanced and plentiful, and comes with a bowl of one of the two daily homemade soups which could be a meal in itself. Each day there are also between 6-12 pies, cakes or other desserts made on site. The waitresses are friendly, and Mrs Thayer roams the dining room interacting with all the patrons.
